K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

01 Aug

Time for your weekly showcase of inspired images, from K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge. This week we had K’lee’s prompt;

“Below, you’ll find five ways Friday is said around the world. Your task- should you accept it- is to choose one of the five, then with the help of the chosen country, create a post and a photo related to what people in that country equate to Friday!

Swahili – Ijummaa

Croatian – Petak

Turkish – Cuma

Hausa – Jumma’a

Indonesian – Jumat”

Well, I don’t mind telling you that this one stumped me completely, so I’ve chosen to interpret Friday as being the end of the week for most people, whatever their country, a time they can relax with friends and family.

Fortunately I was on holiday this week, back in Sussex with Rhonda and Audrey, visiting old friends and family and taking more than one stroll on Ashdown Forest, (land of Winnie the Pooh) including a visit to Pooh Bridge where I took these five photos on, you guessed it; Friday

I’m calling this one “The hummingbird and the elephant”, for Linda G Hill’s amusement.

You can find K’lee’s photo HERE.

Update: Couldn’t resist adding this one to the mix, it has so many layers to it, I had to include it…

******
To get involved with the challenge, post a photo to your blog on Monday, add a pingback to this post (or to K’lee’s) and don’t forget to tag your post #CosPhoChal.

Alternatively, add a link to your blog in the comments of either mine or K’lee’s post and we’ll come and check out your entry.
Any and all effects, editing, Photoshop, Instagram, morphing, collages or whatever other post production techniques you fancy are permitted, (in fact, they’re actively encouraged!) so get creative and turn your photos into artworks for the Cosmic Photo Challenge.

    If you go down in the woods today…you won’t see me, because I took these on Friday, for the Cosmic Photo Challenge;

    Awesome shots. I didn’t mean to stump you or anyone else on this one. What I was after was getting challengers to consider some other cultures based on those five words for Friday, then make a post based on their choice. You don’t have to be in or have taken photos in any of the places.

    For instance, I’ve never been to Africa, but (yet!) Swahili appealed to me, hence my choice of Tanzania and it’s port city of Dar es Salaam. I could have used (stock) photos of the area, but instead chose my own ‘beach/port related shots I felt shared distinctions with their East African sister city… Hope that make a little more sense?

      Yeah, I sort of got it, and I tried to find if the words for “Friday” in those languages had an actual meaning (like our Friday means “Frige’s day” or “Frig’s day”, the old English word for “Venus”, connected to love and fertility) but couldn’t find any local, literal meanings of the words, they were all just translated as “Friday”, which wasn’t much help.

      As for using stock images, that’s got to be a no-no, I’m afraid. All photos must be original captures.

    I especially like your sun daisy, hummingbird and elephant, and many layered shot. I agree this one was a bit of a reach for me, too.

      Thanks, Sue. Do you see The hummingbird? The elephant may be less obvious…

        I see the hummingbird as the vertical root in the foreground, with its beak being the narrow pointy piece extending over the eye and toward the left. The elephant is the larger piece behind the hummingbird’s head, facing right with its trunk and tusks horizontal. Small eared, must be Asian. 😉

      Thanks. It’s rays of sunlight through the water of a stream, reflections of the sky and trees, and actual branches and leaves above the water. Came out well, I think, and no digital mucking about, either.. ;~}
