K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Today’s theme, for the weekly creative splurge we like to call K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, was chosen by K’lee and it is simply this; The beauty of steel.

I decided to go with ordinary stainless steel cutlery; forks, to be precise, shot from interesting angles or digitally manipulated in (hopefully) interesting ways

See what you think of these.

Now let’s see what metallic masterpieces you have for us.
K’lee’s photos are HERE for your viewing pleasure.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

For this week’s installment of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, K’lee chose the theme and he suggested; Mirror mirror.

I decided to go for an artistic twist, using two different types of kaleidoscopic optical devices to capture some spangly images.

The first one is a homemade version of the conventional kaleidoscope; a tube containing two angled mirrors, with a glass tube of glitter and foil shapes at the end of it, which produced these…

…and the second one is of a similar design, except it has a domed lens on the end, giving multiple, fish eyed images of whatever you point it at.

Here is what it looks like when you point it at cauliflower and carrots, ceramic tiles and an LED display.

You can check out K’lee’s post HERE.

Now let’s see what you reflected on over the weekend.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Today’s bank holiday edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge should be child’s play, because I chose the theme of; Toys.

I thought it was only fitting that I got input from the person who the toys belonged to, so Audrey provided Instagram shots of some of the ones she found most photogenic, whereas I…well, I did some strange things with dolls’ heads.

You have been warned.

First, Audrey’s artistic interpretations, from small (and not so small) stuffed animals, to a Scooby Doo monster and some sort of hopping rabbit/chick hybrid.

And now my contribution. I started off with some dolls like these…

…then, as if dolls’ heads weren’t weird enough, I did this to them:

I hope that wasn’t too traumatic for you, check out something less unnerving from K’lee HERE.
But now it’s time for you to come out to play.

As an extra holiday bonus for you, here’s the excellent movie, The Magic Toyshop.

(Not) Stream of consciousness Sunday, part one: Easter in the garden…

It’s Easter Sunday, there’s a live Grand Prix on TV and I’ve got tomorrow off, so the question you have to ask yourself is this; Can I be bothered to spend the day writing, when I can just as easily do it tomorrow, or would I rather be sitting in the garden, taking some photos, watching the race and drinking cider?

Ummm…

So, SoCS is tomorrow, but I thought I’d make the effort and share some of the springtime progress in the garden.

I hope you all have a pleasant Easter and I’ll see you tomorrow for the main event, so to speak.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Monday is with us again and so is K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge, today brought to you by K’lee’s prompt; Foodie for a day.

K’lee wanted indoor food shots specifically and I’ve stuck to the brief almost perfectly.

I say almost perfectly, because the some of the food was cooked outside; Rhonda grilled some fantastic marinated pork belly strips on the barbeque yesterday evening…

…which were accompanied by another of her specialities, an oven baked foil parcel of sliced potato and onion with garlic and herbs…

…with green beans, baby corn and mushrooms, fried with bacon and parmesan.

Voilá.
Bon appetit.

Oh, and there were muffins for dessert.

For my own contribution to the challenge, I cooked up a work of art of a different sort; I used the corn we had for dinner, along with a tomato, a papaya and some broccoli…

…I made this fruit and veg masterpiece.

You can see K’lee’s yummy post HERE.

Now it’s your turn to give us something to get our teeth into.

Cosmic Photo prompt…

It’s prompt time again, for Monday’s edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge. Actually it’s way past time for it, (again) so I apologise for leaving you with less preparation time than usual to work on K’lee’s theme for the week, which is; Foodie for a day.

Photos of food, it couldn’t be simpler than that. Although K’lee did add a small caveat;

“Food shot indoors at home win extra points for coolness…

So, there you have it. ‘Foodie For a Day’. Photos of food at home preferably, but if not just go for creative food expressions. Dale and I will still think you’re cool!”

We will, indeed.
Thanks K’lee.

K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge…

Apologies for the late post, I’ve had a problem with my new varifocal glasses and haven’t been able to see my phone until now.
But I’m here now and refocused on today’s edition of K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge so let’s get to it.

I set the theme; From an unusual angle, without really thinking what I was going to do and initially came up with an interior view of our abalone wind chimes and the tunnel-like loops of a spiral bound notebook, which are ok, but lack a certain something…

…but then I had a flash of inspiration and, after ten minutes mucking about, trying to balance my phone on top of our stainless steel coffee press, this happened:

That’s more…Cosmic. Much better.

K’lee’s post is now HERE

And now it’s your turn.

#atozchallenge: A is for Abstract Art…

You know that comment I made yesterday about getting back to normal? Well, I’d forgotten that the A-Z Challenge began this month, hadn’t I?

So I’m going to have a go at another month of random stuff, but these are likely to be very quick posts and, since I have serious problems with any link to the Blogger platform, it’s unlikely that I’ll be doing it properly.

Anyway, here is the first day’s offering; a small selection of abstract art, created using photos I took for my week of nature photography posts.

March of the Internet Nobody, day thirty one: Nature photography week…

For this, the final post in my month long frenzy of blogging activity, I took a slightly muddy stroll along a stretch of the Yeo river valley and captured what nature had to offer (in the grey springtime drizzle) in amongst the trees and undergrowth.

This area floods regularly in winter and spring, so it’s an altogether sparser landscape than our local woods, but the wood anemones are blooming, along with the ubiquitous wild garlic and a few other wild flowers. There is also an abundance of dramatically shaped trees here, bordering a more fast-flowing river which rushes over a concrete weir after snaking through the woods.

Thank you for joining me on my week of nature rambles and for putting up with me every day this month, normal(ish) service should resume tomorrow.

March of the Internet Nobody, day thirty: Nature photography week…

For my penultimate post in this maelstrom of March madness, a more accurate description would be “countryside”, instead of “nature” photography, as I tried to capture a bit more of the actual landscape on my journey home today.

I took a detour past the imposing Castle Hill country house and gardens, snapping a few shots of the estate cottages, the lodge house at the entrance to the drive, Castle Hill house itself and the surrounding woodland. The crows called noisily from high above as they built their twiggy nests in the tall trees, daffodils bloomed on the roadside and the river flowed peacefully past.

It finally felt like spring is actually here and summer is on the way.
